Opportunity
Burngreave is an unmanaged public space filled with trash, lacking organized community events. When asked if cooking was possible there, neighbours assumed it was forbidden without official city council permission.
Strategy
We organized a neighbourhood trash cleanup to get around questions about clearance from the city council and police. Using materials from university dorm leftovers, saved surplus food, and trash-built furniture, we set up an open-air kitchen. Local residents took over the space, bringing their own tables, pots, and family recipes to cook together.
